Knowledge acquisition and just in time resources

I enjoyed the opportunity to produce e-learning that formed part of an effective learning journey resulting in behavioural change. This company takes time to consider how e-learning can be used to greatest impact.

Sales Scenario

The company knew their pre-classroom Knowledge Acquisition was accessed and facilitated effective classroom sessions. But, tracking the use of post classroom follow up modules showed they needed to rethink the format.

This was my 'medium to low cost proposed solution'. Create more engaging audio and realistic, plausible environments to bring psychological concepts to life. I proposed multiple versions of these scenarios, featuring different environments and addressing only one theory concept at a time. The scenario should also not last more than 5-10 minutes.

Digital Skill Cards

The company issued printed skill cards during their classroom sessions but there was no way to tell if these cards were actually used again.

These digital skill cards can be accessed via a QR code and saved to a mobile device. They improve on the printed format through the use of interactive diagrams rather than static print. The format can be tracked to see if they are useful and can be updated for a smaller cost than the print based versions.

RISE

Articulate's RISE program has made certain types of e-learning easier to create.
I chose to apply RISE to various 'just in time' post classroom resources. They needed to be quick and easy to access. Usage tracking can be applied, if hosted on a LMS but this type of resource is more useful if it can be accessed by one click and not behind login screen.
When I used RISE to produce a post classroom refresh of knowledge for internal company training, I designed each resource to take no more than 10 minutes to complete. This allowed a GDPR presentation video to be broken to multiple easy to locate subjects. After the classroom presentation staff could quickly find and refresh their memory on the areas that were more relevant to their role.

Mobile first

My adjustment of the Articulate Storyline slide dimension to accommodate smaller screen may have a lasting impact. Products built in the future will now consider mobile screen sizes and reduce the complexity of slides. This also created a clearer learning experience.
The product where I made these dimension adjustments was also the company's first fully accessible product. I use Storyline accessiblility features to create a tab order and audio captions.

Psychology made simple

Instead of featuring three types of statement across 3 different slides, I wanted to find a way to show them together for the benefit of comparison. This caused screen complexity problems. To compensate the SME kindly reduced the amount of information she wanted to deliver in the explanations resulting in a clearer experience.

This circular diagram is a strong element to many training courses. Most of the theory delivered relates back to it. I needed to feature it as often as possible without over complicating slide content. My request to abbreviate the words used was accepted and SME's found ways to reduce other textual content of slides resulting in more concise courses.

Diversity

I also wanted to increase the range of possible customers and situations reflected in the courses.
